NASA Moon Math Challenge

Three Barrett 5th graders participated in the extracurricular NASA sponsored project MOON MATH CHALLENGE from November through March. The students researched moon craters as potential landing sites for future missions to the moon, optimal launch dates and flight path, and fuel type and quantity need to travel to the moon. The students presented their findings via videoconference to an astronomer, geologist, and technology specialist at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center on March 22, 2006. Barrett RTG (Resource Teacher for the Gifted) Shirley Tyler led the project, and was supported by parent Mr. Robert Smout, and Barrett teachers Ramona Morales and Laurie Sullivan.
